The AMD Athlon 64 was the first consumer 64-bit processor and is widely recognised as the best gaming processor at the moment. The current format for the mid to high end Athlons 64s is Socket 939. At first all Athlon 64s were on the single channel ram Socket 754 but this is now used mostly for AMDs budget chip, the Sempron.
