Hard Drives

From Extreme Overclocking

Jump to: navigation, search

Hard drives are magnetic storage devices used in computers to store information permanently. They are non volatile storage because they do not need a constant current to "remember" their information, like RAM does.

Hard drives are not hermetically sealed, contrary to what most people think. This to prevent the hard drive from damage due to changes in pressure. There are tiny inlets that are filtered to allow pressure change, while keeping dust and other particles out.

Types of Hard Drives

There are four main types of hard drives; IDE, SATA (serial attachment), SCSI, and USB (external).
